We spent the day in Athens on Saturday and decided to get lunch at The Place. It was delicious! We sat at the bar upstairs and the view was amazing! Sitting right across from the Arch and North Campus gave the perfect backdrop. Madeline, I believe was her name, was awesome! Super attentive and great personality. We will definitely be back! The peanut burboun drink is a must try! Fried green BLT w pimento cheese and guda Mac and cheese, chefs kiss!

Our experience here was so great. We have heard of this place from other people who have visited, along with some of the UGA Students and locals. We ordered the Fried Salmon with a side of mac and cheese and the Burger with Onion Rings. Everything was really yummy, and well-cooked. However, our favorite part of this place, would have to be the service. Caitlyn D, the bartender, provided us with a lot of insight and helpful information. She was energetic, and you could tell she loved her job and works extremely hard. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting or looking for a nice place to eat.

The food was very good here. We're talking Southern Comfort food with a good selection of beer and cocktails. The Burger and The Shrimp Burger are both highly recommended. There is also a pretty big selection of southern sides to pick with your entrees. The service was top notch! We went on a Friday night and it was packed. Although we did have to wait a few minutes beyond our reservation time, we were greeted quickly and there is a bar area (upstairs) to grab drinks and wait. Our server was incredible. Very friendly, quickly took out drink order and got our food, and was very attentive throughout the night with drink refills, etc. They even entertained making one of our party a cocktail that was not on the menu. There is a downstairs seating area and also an upstairs with additional seating and bar area. Really cool brick interior and tall and cool ceilings! An entree, cocktail(s) and shared apps will probably run you in the $30-$50 range per person. We were a party of 5. There is not a ton of space here, but they were able to seat a pretty large party upstairs.

Excellent southern food. The fried veggies were very good. I love the fried whole okra. It pairs with a perfect ranch source. It looks runny but it tastes just right, not too heavy and still yummy. I like the shrimp and grits too. Although I think it can be a little more creamy, it is not as salty as South City Kitchen.

*Delayed post from April ‘25 I was pleasantly impressed with The Place! It was recommended by a few friends and I’m glad we stopped in for Saturday night dinner, though I’ve also heard brunch is delicious, albeit busy. The service includes typical southern hospitality and is mostly run by college age students as expected. I loved our window seats that looked out at north campus with the Arch in view. Perfect for alumni in town looking to reminisce over a meal. Food wise, I was concerned with what appeared to be stereotypical southern style food like fried chicken and shrimp and grits, but boy was I wrong!! The modern take on these meals satisfied my craving for familiar comfort foods, while elevating the quality and presentation to something I was proud to share with someone “not from ‘round these parts.” I highly recommend the Southern Bruschetta because the Pimento Cheese is ON POINT. Also the Shrimp and Grits, which has unbelievably delicious flavor and texture. If you’re not hungry enough for an appetizer, a good combo would be the Fried Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich because it also comes with the Pimento Cheese. The chicken was beautifully fried and seasoned well. Can’t go wrong here!

My family and I really enjoyed our experience at The Place. We sat upstairs and all ordered different dishes. Chicken and Waffles, Shrimp and Grits, Bourbon glazed Salmon, and the Burger. Everyone enjoyed their food and I must say the bacon on the chicken and waffles really made the experience. To top it all off the Cheesecake was dense and delicious! Our server Sam had helpful suggestions, was attentive with good conversation. Before we were done we all knew we’d be back.

The Place is one of those restaurants that immediately feels welcoming the moment you walk in. The atmosphere is relaxed but polished, making it great for both a casual meal or a nicer night out. The menu has a solid variety, and everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Portions were generous without being over the top. Service really stood out — friendly, attentive, and never rushed. It’s the kind of spot where staff genuinely want you to enjoy your experience. Overall, The Place lives up to its name and is absolutely worth a visit if you’re in Athens. I’ll definitely be back.

We had a great meal here! The food was delicious and not overpriced. The service was good and friendly. We waited 35 minutes but we were able to leave and come back so that we didn’t have to wait there. They sent us a message when our table was ready. I would recommend to anyone who’s in Athens.

I got the tuna melt which was nice, but could have been creamier. I made up for it by adding the loaded potato salad in between, which made the sandwiches yummier. The bread was nice and toasty though! Loaded potato salad is a MUST HAVE, the flavor was peak. The fried vegetables was pretty good too, but the ranch sells it for me (yummm). My server, Ava, is a sweetheart! Super nice and split the check for us without us asking, something you would not see happen in NY. During our visit, a medical emergency occurred, but the staff were all quick to act, so nothing bad happened. Super tragic for the family (well wishes!!) but upside, the staff are quick on their feet if anything ever happens😭 We came pretty late, and took our time to eat, and the staff did not kick us out even when it reached 10pm! So sweet of them, which is why I gave them a 5 stars even though food wasn’t a 10/10.

Dinner before a concert can be a gamble, but The Place delivered from start to finish. Avery did a fantastic job taking care of us and keeping everything on schedule so we could make it to the show without feeling rushed. She also made sure we secured one of the last two slices of their white chocolate cheesecake, which turned out to be the perfect ending to the meal. We started with an Old Fashioned made with Old Forester and the house specialty Peanuts & Coke cocktail. At $12 and $11, respectively, both drinks were excellent values and a great way to kick off the evening. The fried vegetable appetizer was outstanding, featuring perfectly cooked green tomatoes, pickles, and okra served with ranch. Honestly, this plate alone is worth stopping in for. For the main course, I went with the Guinness and garlic-marinated hanger steak. It arrived perfectly cooked, tender, and packed with flavor. The accompanying Brussels sprouts were excellent, and the mashed potatoes topped with caramelized onions tasted homemade—not something scooped from a box. Dessert was the white chocolate cheesecake, and it absolutely stole the show. Rich, creamy, and decadent, it put an exclamation point on an already outstanding meal. One of the hidden gems here is the upstairs bar, which has a Prohibition-era feel that adds to the character and charm of the restaurant. Seating can be limited, especially on busy nights, but it’s well worth the wait. Great food, great cocktails, great service, and a unique atmosphere. The Place has earned a spot on our Athens return list.
